Automotive X Prize

The Automotive XPrize people have developed a good explanation of why 100 MPG is a sensible goal.  In short, they've said that the figure is high enough to make a huge dent in energy consumption, but not so high that the likely vehicle cost gets out of hand.

Race Car Handling

Badly-engineered three wheeled vehicles can handle poorly -- even unsafely.  However, a well-engineered trike can out-handle even some very sophisticated road cars.  The T Rex trike, for instance, corners with G forces that a Porsche cannot match.

Our vehicles will provide safe, responsive sports car handling:  certainly far better that the abysmal handling of an SUV, and better than the average family sedan as well.  Crashworthiness is important -- and we will excel in that area -- but excellent steering and braking can help you avoid an accident entirely.

The sides of the POC and the mc2 prototype provide plenty of space for sponsors' decals.  We get noticed wherever we go, and will be placing press releases in many major periodicals, so sponsorship is a great media value.   The Automotive X Prize competition is expected to have among the largest purses in automotive racing history, so this will be a very high-visibility, newsworthy event.

Initially, we will be looking for sponsors in two areas.  First are those companies who genuinely want to do the "right thing" (and want to be seen as doing the "right thing").  The X Prize competition is a great way to be involved in helping to pass along a healthier planet to the next generation.

A second category is for companies whose products are used in our prototypes and production vehicles.  Every component we select must meet very high standards for efficiency, durability, producibility and economy.  It's not good enough to simply say "who cares about expense, let's make everything in carbon fiber."  This needs to be a producible, real vehicle that real people will buy at a reasonable price.  This vehicle must deliver tangible value:  it is unreasonable to expect people to pay a large premium to save a small amount of fuel.  The vehicle must make economic good sense, in addition to being a vehicle buyers can feel good about.  Smart manufacturers can make great components, economically.  When we’ve found such manufacturers, we are happy to let you know about them.
